Why I made this website

Laptop with lagilogi website being worked onYou should have your own website. Something you can fall back on when you can’t use the big ones like Facebook or YouTube.

I always wanted to own my own website. A place where I could write about anything I cared about.

And I tried this in the past, but failed.

I thought it had to be about a niche. Something very specific. It was either A or B. Or maybe A and B at most. But it could never be about A, B, C and D too.

That’s what I thought at least. But of course it can. And that is just what my website is about right now – A, B, C, D and E. Maybe even F and G too at some point!

Anyway..

I thought it’d be important to write down the why-s, for both you and I. For you, so you understand my reasoning. For me, so I can come back and get myself back on track when I start to wander and wonder why I wanted this in the first place.

So what topics are we going to discuss?

  1. A way to put information on ‘paper’
  2. A place for memories
  3. A place to talk about things I am ashamed of
  4. A place to track goals and progress
  5. As a source of income
  6. TLDR

Let’s go through them.

1. A way to put information on ‘paper’.

I’m curious about a million and one things. I learn a lot, but I also forget a lot. My problem has always been that the things don’t stick. I forget information so easily, even if it interests me a lot.

The way I take in information is through listening, reading, watching, sometimes taking notes too.

And then I lose those.. Out of sight, out of mind and thus forgotten.

If something does stick, it’s just vaguely the overarching thread but the details are forgotten.

Then a while back I remembered that teaching someone else a thing, is the best way to learn that thing yourself. Because you have to explain it in ways others understand, where they can ask questions and you look at the subject from different viewing points.

However, I don’t know enough people that are as interested in these subjects as I am. So why not write about, teach it to the internet and as bonus: I got my own personal knowledge base!

2. A place for memories.

As a forgetful person I have few memories of my life in the past. I can’t remember things well, if at all.

It really sucks, but it is what it is. There is nothing I can do about the past. So I decided to do it for the future, through my blog.

I want to write about things I’m going to do and things I’ve done. To document my life a little. To have a timeline for when I’m older, so that when I’m older I can look back. Read some stories.

(Besides, writing things down is supposed to increase chances of imprinting memories into the brain. WIN-WIN)

3. A place to talk about things I’m ashamed of.

I easily feel embarrassed about most kinds of subjects. Subjects like gaming or anime, etc.

It can be a huge obstacle and brings a lot anxiety. This little island will be where I can speak about these and other topics without feeling I’m going to be judged.

I do know I’ll be judged online, more than anywhere else. But it’s the faces in public that can trigger the feeling of embarrassment. Not the keyboard warriors.

4. A place to track goals and progress.

I got a few goals, but I got problems with sticking to them.

The first reason is that I don’t write them down. They are vaguely in my head and change shape depending on the circumstances.

I think it’s because I never take the time to write them down properly in the SMART kind of way.

There is no timeframe set, no urgency, no way to measure progress and no actual chosen method to get there – and thus are also subject to change, depending on the circumstances of those times.

Quick example; I want to be financially free (who doesn’t?) and not be stuck to a job because of money. Unless I win the lottery, this won’t change overnight. So I need to come up with a plan the SMART kind of way..

5. As a source of income.

A website could be an extra source of income with some ads and affiliate marketing. For my research on How to write the best blogpost I came across videos from multiple sources that mentioned their blog was life-changing financially speaking. I’d love a bit of that.

Although those were all quite about a niche. Mine is more about whatever I like to write about, which might be hard to monetize, if at all.

Another way to somehow monetize my website indirectly is through cross-promotion between my projects and my website. Hopefully both boosting each other in some way.

6. TLDR

I made LagiLogi for writing down memories and knowledge, with a hint of goals & progress tracking and eventually a nice extra income.

Now I wonder about you and the internet.

Do you have your own little spot on the internet? Your own website?

Post them down below in the comments. I’m very curious what you’ve made and what they’re about!

Thanks for reading. See you in the next!

If you’re interested the goals I’ve set for LagiLogi and how this website evolves over time, then have a look at the Pursuits page for the website: Website Goals and Updates.
